What is Sports Psychology?

Welcome to the first blog entry on PolsterPerformance.com! While I started my business a while back, I finally got with the times and created a website along with social media handles designed to keep my clients (and future clients) informed about all things performance. With that in mind, I wanted to briefly discuss one of the questions I get asked the most (in one form or another): "What is Sports Psychology??"

In a few short words, sports psychology (or performance psychology) is the practice of helping an individual or team become Aware of their mental obstacles to peak performance, be Accountable to that awareness, and put into Action their new skills. I call it the 3A's of peak performance. Now, you may be thinking, but I'm old school! Ability, hard work, and opportunity are the keys to success. To that I say...correct! Your mindset can't make you a scratch golfer if you can barely break 120. However, if you have the ability, hard work, and opportunity, and still haven't reached your goals, chances are, your brain is getting in the way! That's where sports psychologists come in. We are trained to help you with the 3A's of peak performance and remove those mental obstacles to success. With a little hard work, you'll be breaking 80 in no time!
